Wilderness Camp Madejärvi – A holiday surrounded by nature

For everyone seeking silence. For everyone wanting to leave daily life behind and find peace in the nature of Finnish Lapland. Our wilderness camp lies right on the shore of Lake Madejärvi, at the edge of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. A place where life slows down and the essentials come back into focus. An ideal base for countless activities in the national park.

In winter, Madejärvi is an integral part of our multi-day husky tours – and this special atmosphere can also be experienced and booked in the other seasons.

The large, hand-built log cabin accommodates up to six people and forms the heart of the camp. For bigger groups, we are happy to open the smaller neighboring cabin with an additional four beds. This way, the camp remains a shared retreat for up to ten people.

Alongside stands the spacious grill kota with an open fire and a well-equipped kitchen for cooking. The wood-heated lakeside sauna, of course, belongs to the experience. And if you want to dip into the water after your evening sauna session, it’s just a few steps away.

This type of wilderness camp is deeply rooted in the Finnish mökki tradition: simple cabins in secluded locations, with little comfort – but with time, nature, firewood, and silence.

Madejärvi is simple – and it is precisely in this simplicity that its special quality lies.

Stay with character – this is how you live at the Wilderness Camp

Our camp consists of several buildings, each with its own purpose – functional, well thought-out, and built in harmony with the surroundings.

The large log cabin is the heart of the camp. Hand-built from massive logs, it accommodates up to six people on two levels. A wood-heated soapstone stove provides a pleasant warmth. On the lower level, you’ll find a cozy sitting area. Lighting and a USB charging station are powered by solar and battery. There are no regular power outlets. A special highlight is the evening sun, which bathes the veranda in warm light.

The sauna sits right by the lake. Traditionally wood-heated, it offers an unforgettable experience. Inside, there is a simple shower option using a wood-heated water boiler. There is no conventional shower – just as it should be in a true mökki that is not connected to the electricity or water grid. The lake itself is a perfect place to cool off after the day or the sauna.

The grill kota is the central meeting point of the camp. An open fire burns in the middle – this is where meals are cooked, eaten, and enjoyed together. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas stove and oven, plenty of cooking utensils, a wood-burning oven, as well as lighting and a USB charging station. Drinking water comes from our own spring in Rauhala.

The toilet building stands a little apart and is a traditional dry toilet.

The small cabin can be booked additionally if needed. Located right next to the kota, it offers four sleeping places, is heated with a wood stove, and also has a light source.
